Case Study of Miniature Gift Model Production for Yellow Crane Tower Ancient Architecture

This case study is based on the miniature model of the Yellow Crane Tower shown in the picture. From the perspective of craftsmanship accuracy and gift design, the production process of the miniature gift model of ancient architecture, which combines cultural value and collectible attributes, is dismantled to provide customized solutions for the cultural tourism, creative and business gift markets.

1、 Project Overview and Production Objectives

The prototype of the project is the Yellow Crane Tower. The model adopts a 1:500 miniature scale and is presented in a copper like texture. The core goal is to accurately restore the shape characteristics, cornice angle and detail components of the five story double eaves summit at a very small scale, while meeting the needs of portability, viewing and durability, and becoming a gift product with both cultural commemoration and technological value.

2、 Core manufacturing processes and procedures

1. Digital modeling and precision control

Based on the mapping drawings of the Yellow Crane Tower, the digital restoration is completed through 3D scanning and CAD modeling, and the complex arch of wooden architecture, window mullion, ridge decoration and other components are disassembled into productive modules. Considering the micro scale, some details have been optimized and simplified to ensure stable molding of the components while preserving visual recognition. The overall size of the model is controlled at 20cm × 20cm × 30cm, suitable for gift packaging and desktop display needs.

2. Forming process and component manufacturing

The process of combining metal cold die casting and 3D printing is adopted: the main columns, beams, platform and other load-bearing components are formed by zinc alloy die casting to ensure structural strength and copper like texture; The cornices, roof figures, railings and other fine components are produced by 3D printing with photosensitive resin, and then processed and polished to restore flexible curves and hollow details. All components are precisely molded in proportion, with an error controlled within 0.1mm, ensuring the stacking relationship and symmetrical layout of the five story tower.

3. Surface treatment and texture presentation

The surface treatment adopts the imitation copper antique process: first, the metal components are electroplated and colored to form a bronze colored substrate; Then, through manual wiping, the texture layers of tile ridge, arch of wooden architecture and other parts are highlighted to simulate the thickness of ancient buildings over the years. The wooden texture is achieved through transfer printing technology, avoiding the heaviness of paint coating and enhancing the warm texture of the model. The top Baoding and roof figures are highlighted to become the visual focus and improve the overall refinement.

4. Scene based assembly and gift based adaptation

Modular assembly of the main tower with scene components such as platform, fence, and steps, using hidden snap connections to ensure structural stability and facilitate disassembly and storage. The base is designed as an integrated platform, with carved textures on the edges to simulate the texture of the table base. At the same time, anti slip pads are reserved to adapt to desktop placement. The packaging adopts a customized gift box with built-in cushioning sponge and cultural explanation card, fully conveying the historical and cultural value of the Yellow Crane Tower and enhancing the sense of gift ceremony.

5. Quality inspection and durability testing

Establish a three-level quality inspection system of "component accuracy assembly fit surface texture", and verify the proportion and splicing accuracy of each component one by one; Conduct simulated transportation tests such as drops and friction to ensure that the model is not easily deformed or peeled off during daily carrying and display. The final product must meet the gift attributes of being playable, presentable, and collectible, while fully preserving the cultural identity of the ancient architecture.

3、 Application value and market significance

This miniature model successfully transforms grand ancient buildings into portable cultural gifts, suitable for cultural and creative sales in tourist attractions, business souvenirs, as well as cultural teaching aids and collectible ornaments. By integrating modern craftsmanship with traditional forms, the millennium famous building has entered daily life in a miniature form, providing a practical path of "small yet beautiful" for the dissemination of traditional culture and the development of cultural and creative products. At the same time, it demonstrates the dual value of model making in cultural inheritance and commercial application.
